My mother fostered a love of books even as a toddler.  I dreamed of being a 'professor', or 'author' as a child.  I began my education at a Two Year Community College as an alternative to what appeared to be the very hard work of my father and brothers on the railroad.  I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology.  I studied Neuroscience. Bizarrely,  I enrolled in no art nor writing courses!  Becoming frustrated with my studies not relating to the work with my hands in the research labs, I didn’t pursue graduate school.  My interest in Art sparked when I read a biography on Malvina Hoffman, a female sculptor that studied under Rodin, and traveled the world creating sculptures of the “Races of Man” for the Field Museum in Chicago.  This sparked memories of myself as a child working with clay, and a sculpture a created while at the University of Oregon.   I had been working on my hobby for 10 hours straight without leaving my chair.  I thought, I should give this art stuff a try.  I eventually received a Master’s of Fine Art degree from Arizona State University.  During my art and teaching career, writing became more intriguing as something I had not accomplished from my childhood dreams.  As my career wound down, I wanted my 'retired' self, not to be an echo of my working self.  I embarked on a journey to become an author.  I plan to launch this career this September.
